India vs West Indies 2nd Day 1st Test

India ended the second day of the first test against the West Indies at Eden Gardens in a strong positions, having started the day off poorly. India resumed their first innings on 37/0, still trailing the West Indies first innings score by 197 runs. The in-form Dhawan was the first man dismissed when he was bowled by Shillingford for 23. The spell that followed from Shillingford had the Indian side in huge trouble, losing the wickets of Vijay, Pujara, Tendulkar and Kohli all within a ten over period, to leave the host side in huge trouble at the lunch interval on 120/5. India consolidated well after lunch, Sharma and Dhoni mixing aggression well with defense, and strung together a 73 runs partnership. Tino Best who didn’t trouble the Indian batting order at all was brought back into the attack, and struck immediately to dismiss the dangerous Dhoni for 42. Sharma in the meantime went to his 50 off 95 balls, a decent result for someone making their test debut. India went to tea with the score on 229/6. The final session of the day saw India take compete control of the test match. Rohit Sharma went to his century, and was very well supported by Ashwin, going to his fifty off just 71 balls, matching Sharma shot for shot. The pairing ended the day with their partnership on 198 runs, not only batting India out of danger, but also into a winning position. Sharma ended the day with his score on 127. Ashwin was just 8 runs short of a test century, with his score on 92 off just 128 balls.
